Mrs. Patricia Blackwell, Grade 8
My name is Pat Blackwell, and I am happy to be teaching at Good Shepherd Catholic School. I attended St. David School in Willow Grove and have been a member of the parish most of my life. When I went to high school, where you lived determined what archdiocesan high school we would attend. I am a graduate of Archbishop Wood High School and Temple University with a BS in Elementary Education.
My teaching years at St. John of the Cross and Good Shepherd Schools have been spent in the middle school grades primarily in sixth and eighth grades. My husband and I often meet former students at school functions and outside of school. When we meet these grownups, they usually say my name and tell me that I was their sixth or eighth grade teacher. Now my husband always teases me and says, “Aren’t you my sixth grade teacher?” I have been privileged to work with a few of my former students. The children of many former students have also been my students.
My husband and I try to attend some of the CYO games. In the past few years we have enjoyed watching the 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls and boys play basketball, baseball and softball. The students in my current classes know that our prayer intentions in my room are for Philadelphia teams only during the regular baseball, football, hockey, and basketball and soccer season.
Since we opened Good Shepherd Catholic, I have been teaching Social Studies to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Twice a month each student presents a current event that includes information about who, what, when, where, why and how. Hopefully, this will encourage students to be more aware of what is going on in the world. Maybe they will be the future peacemakers for our world.
